Green Tea Extract Can Help Improve Health in Men, Study Reveals
A new health study reveals that men can improve their overall health by consuming supplements made from green tea extract. The focus of this was to study was to find out if the extract had any beneficial effects in men and how it influenced their metabolic efficiency, activity, as well as general health.
Green tea, scientifically known as Camelia sinensis, is readily available and has been used for centuries in many parts of the world for both nutritional as well as medicinal uses. Extract from the substance contains lots of essential nutrients and is well-known for its high concentration of antioxidants with the most notable being epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG).
Justin D Roberts, a researcher from the University of Anglia (United Kingdom), and his colleagues carried out tests on a group of men whose average age was 21 years. The highly-active men were split into two groups; one group received 400mg of a supplement containing decaffeinated green tea extract(EGCG) while the other half got placebo. The entire experiment took place within a period of 4 weeks with the cycles covering one hour 3 times weekly.
The studies were influenced by the rising concerns about more men falling victims to poor health. According to the Office for National Statistic (ONS) UK, men were more-likely to make poor health decisions compared to women. 4 out of 5(78%) of suicides committed in the UK were done by men, while the biggest cause of death in men aged below 35 years was suicide.
In the study led by Justin D Roberts, men consuming supplements made from green tea extract experienced a 25% rise in fat oxidation, their body fat content declined by 1.63%, and their activeness improved by 10.9%. There were very minimal changes in the group taking placebo with some men experiencing declined metabolic activity while body fat content increased in some.
Supporting his findings, Justin D Roberts stated that extracts from decaffeinated green tea contained high concentration of catechin polyphenols which is an antioxidant. The essential ingredients helps improve metabolic activity in the body, enhances substrate utilization, boosts the energy level in men, and also combats free radicals that accelerate or promote aging.
Men unlike their female counterparts are not so much into consuming green tea extracts and related substances. However, the revelations from the above study show that green tea extract can help men improve their overall health leading to better and stress-free living. And for better results, men should aspire to consume natural and organic products while engaging in physical exercises.
